Welcome to the 249th instalment of our first impression video series. Today, we are playing the Playstation 3 game, Fallout 3 for the first time. You can check out the video directly on YouTube or in the embed below:
Promised made, promised kept.
A while ago, I posted a video about me trying to play the Steam game, Fallout 3. The game itself didn’t work and while I tried a number of different “fixes”, nothing worked and the splash screen was all I got.
While some were welcoming of my honest findings of trying this game, it still became the most downvoted video I have ever produced. It’s ironic because it also wound up being the most watched video on my whole channel on top of it all. XD
At any rate, I mentioned that I hoped to eventually take another crack at this game and, well, I did just that. The idea is that the PS3 version would natively run this game since the game (at least the PS3 version) is designed to work with the PS3 in the first place. Sadly, the disc I bought also happened to be a bad disc that turned out to not only be scratched, but also suffering from heat damage. I ultimately got the disc replaced by another one and that finally worked. So, third time was the charm for this game, as it turned out.
I don’t honestly expect anyone to really care that I got this to work. I’m willing to bet this video isn’t going to be anywhere near as popular as the broken game video (love to be proven wrong on that!), but hey, at least I found a way to get this to work at least.
Anyway, one thing that really struck me about this game was just how familiar it all felt. I’ve plated New Vegas, 4, and 76 and so many of the mechanics were very similar. Yes, there were differences such as how magazines offer permanent boosts in various attributes as opposed to them being temporary boosts in newer games, but the basics were more or less similar (magazines boosting your skills, for instance).
At the very least, though, I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of this game has to offer now that I finally have a chance to play it.
Anyway, I wanted to hear from you. What are your thoughts on this game? For those who have played this game, what did you think? Did this game have a lot of good memories for you or were you less into the mixing of RPG elements into an FPS game?
For those who haven’t played this game, but have played other Fallout games, what did you think of what you saw here? Does this look like a game you would be willing to try or does the graphics and gameplay mechanics look a bit too dated for your taste?
Finally, for those who have never played any Fallout games, what did you think of what you saw here? Does this look like a game you might be into playing or does the different numerical statistics make this game feel a bit to cerebral for you? Let us know in the comments below!
