Review: Soultans – Can’t Take My Hands Off You (7″ Mix) (House)

This review covers the house track Soultans – Can’t Take My Hands Off You (7″ Mix).

This track was released in 1996 as a single.

The track starts off with a synth pad and an additional synth. The vocals are also present here in a non-lyrical manner. From there, the drum kit comes in along with some brass elements. The vocals then take the track into the first verse.

After that, the vocals take the track into the first round of the main chorus. Backup vocals also make subtle appearances here. This section is capped off with an instrumental section. Some organ elements are also present in this section.

In the next section, the vocals take the track into the next verse. Shortly after, the vocals take the track into the next round in the main chorus. The section is capped off with another instrumental section.

From there, the vocals take the track into the next verse. There is more emphasis on some piano. The vocals whisper more in this section. A quasi-instrumental section follows this. After that, the vocals take the track into the next round of the main chorus. The vocals extend the main chorus as the track gradually fades out.

For me, the vocals sound quite crisp and clean. They also sound quite good. The way that the vocals come together with the drum kit and other elements in the main chorus, that’s where this track definitely shines.

The problem I have with this track is the lyrics. I think what the intention with the way it was written and sung is that it’s supposed to be about desire and want. Unfortunately, I worry that this ends up coming off as a suggestion of sexual assault. I don’t know if that is really the intention, but if it’s not about that, then the track really is walking a fine line here.

Meanwhile, the brass does sound pretty well done and compliments the track quite nicely.

Overall, this is a pretty decent track. The vocals sound clean and crisp and the backing elements sound great. I wish I could unsee the interpretation of the lyrics that I ended up finding and enjoy the music, but it does kind of spoil it for me a bit. A decent one outside of the lyrics.

Score
7/10
