Review: E-Rotic – Help Me Doctor Dick (Pop)

This review covers the dance pop track E-Rotic – Help Me Doctor Dick.

This track was released in 1996 (album art possibly NSFW) on the album The Power of Sex.

The track starts with a pad and a synth melody with sliding notes. The drum kit then comes in along with a subtle guitar element. After that, the male vocals come in.

After that, the female vocals take the track into the main chorus. A partial instrumental section follows.

From there, the male vocals come in for another verse. It’s noted that there is a stutter on some of the “D”s. After that, the female vocals take the track into the main chorus. Like last time, a partial instrumental follows. A full instrumental section follows after that.

The female vocals return for another round of the main chorus. A partial instrumental section follows. After that, the female vocals repeat the main chorus. An instrumental section follows. After that, the vocals lead the track out.

For me, this is one of those tracks that make me feel dirty just listening to the track. You can almost visualize the label and their accountants discussing what new and exciting act they should come up with. The discussion of how sex sells and how sex in music is a marketable thing. Then, what comes to mind is just going all the way and conjuring up an act like this as if to say, “Hey, let’s go all the way and see what happens! After all, there are plenty of teens out there that will get their hands on this anyway.”

The female vocals are quite good and the male vocals are decent. The lyrics, meanwhile, leave a bit to be desired. It winds up being less about artistry with words and more about saying controversial words in a recording. As a result, I’m of the opinion that this music is more about shock factor than anything else. Once you get past the shock factor, the track becomes fairly empty.

The synth is decent enough and the use of guitars, while subtle, are effective.

Overall, this track does have good vocals. The lyrics, however, seem to be more about shock factor than anything else. Still, the synths and instruments used are decent enough. So, an alright track, but nothing too memorable after you get past the shock factor.

Score
7/10
